Don't Ask Don't Tell Defenders

For those of you who still don't get it, here's why this is wrong:

Instead of striking down the policy of discrimination by a governmental agency, DADT simply sidesteps it by saying that, even though we don't want Homosexuals in the military, we'll pretend that you aren't gay if you don't tell us you are.

The defenders seem to think it's enough to let gay people serve if they want to. They are missing the point. Me telling you that I find you disgusting and objectionable but you can come to my party anyway is not a real welcoming gesture is it?
